The Transportation Engineering Division frequently gets requests for noise walls from private communities; however, the general policy is to perform a Noise Study during the design of capital highway improvement projects. A County initiated Capital Improvement Project adheres to criteria for noise abatement promulgated by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). If a site meets the requirements for noise abatement measures, the county will, during the project’s construction phase install a wall. The Land Development Code governs Planned Unit Developments (PUD), and if a community wishes to construct a private wall, it would need to follow the proper permitting process by contacting the Zoning Services Section.
