Traffic Cameras -What are traffic cameras at intersections used for?
Our cameras are not used to enforce speed limits or red light running. None of the video is recorded. Collier County Traffic Operations utilizes two types of cameras: detection cameras and Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras. The detections cameras have a fixed view and they are used for detection – a way of ‘seeing’ a vehicle waiting at a signal – which ensures that the vehicle will be served during a cycle. The Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras are used for monitoring traffic flow and to make traffic signal timing adjustments when issues occur.
