Where do I get Florida Bear Information? - What do I do if I see a Bear on my Property?

DO NOT APPROACH THE ANIMAL, even if it appears dead or unconscious, as it could still cause serious injury.

To report a human-bear conflict or to report a sick, injured, orphaned, or dead black bear contact your regional Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Office (FWC):

  • Collier County, (Monday-Friday, 8 am-5pm), call the South Region FWC office at:  (561) 625-5122
  • After business hours call FWC's Wildlife Alert:  1 (888) 404-3922
  • Mobile phone users can dial: *FWC or #FWC

Please be prepared to answer the following questions:

  1. What is the exact location of the animal?
  2. Is the bear alive or dead?
  3. Is the bear blocking a roadway?
  4. What is the approximate size of the bear?
  5. Can you provide a contact number where you can be reached for further information?

The above information is the most important you can provide; however, any additional information will be helpful.

For more information about the Florida Black Bear, please contact the FWC at:  (850) 488-4676 or visit them online at: FWC Bears

To report wildlife law violations anywhere in the state, 24 hours a day, call the toll-free Wildlife Alert Hotline:  888-404-FWCC  (888-404-3922).
