Beach Water Quality - How is water tested on Collier County Beaches?

The Healthy Beaches Program tests water samples weekly for Enterococcus Bacteria, which helps to indicate the water quality of our beautiful beaches here in Collier County.

We test twelve (12) sites throughout the county. If two (2) consecutive samples are returned in poor condition, information containing a warning or advisories will be posted stating that swimming is not recommended due to high bacteria counts and a possible health hazard.

We follow the Environmental Protection Agency’s guidelines for detection of bacteria.
